Who Is Geistmonster Media Inc?

Joel Paul Geist is the rare individual who has achieved the coveted milestone of “10,000 hours” of experience in both audio production AND video production.

Joel was born in Detroit, Michigan, and began experimenting with audio recording in the third grade. He started making movies when his parents bought a video camera when he was in the fifth grade. Obsessed with music, he started playing guitar in the eighth grade.

When a close friend’s father purchased one of the first computer-based video editing systems in the country, Joel moved to Rockford, Illinois and started making videos professionally. Working with advertising agencies and a wide variety of local and national companies, he soon developed a reputation for unparalleled creativity, and the ability to finish projects “on-time and under budget”. Soon they were winning awards and became the dominant video production facility in Rockford.

With the purchase of the first Pro Tools setup in the area, Joel was soon engineering audio for local commercials and high-end video projects. He was also picked to be the voice talent for a variety of radio ads. After taking one of these ads to the legendary Noise Chamber Recording Studio for mastering, Joel was asked to take over as the Staff Engineer for the facility, due to his expertise with Pro Tools, and his top-notch people skills.

During his tenure at the studio, Mr. Geist became THE go-to guy for recording bands in the northern Illinois area. After winning the RAMI for “Best Studio Engineer” and producing nearly 4,000 songs, Joel Paul Geist relocated to sunny southern California.

Soon after landing in the “City of Angels”, Joel started working with ace-songwriter Jeremy Buck on his first album. Not only was Joel co-producing and engineering music for this very talented musician, he also started playing bass in Mr. Buck’s band, and directed Jeremy’s first music video, “A Secret Made of Dreams”. Winning numerous “Best Band” awards in LA’s Southbay, they were also named by Music Connection Magazine as one of the “Best Unsigned Bands” in the U.S. They developed a dedicated fanbase, and continue to perform for thousands of music lovers across the country.

Joel was nominated for a handful of LA Music Awards, winning “Best Music Video” and “Best Music Video Director” for “A Secret Made of Dreams”. He repeated his success the following year, this time winning again for a pair of music videos he directed for legendary LA alternative-punkers “Farmers”.

Around this time, Joel began working extensively out of the Rancho Palos Verdes-based recording oasis The Sea Palace Studio.

After a brief stint in Las Vegas, Joel has returned to Redondo Beach, bringing his creative expertise back to the fine citizens of Los Angeles. Launching Geistmonster Media Incorporated in 2022, Joel is excited to combine the latest in technological advancements with exceptional creativity.
